Hand-poured oyster shell candles, crafted in Ireland.

Tide & Wick creates small-batch candles poured into genuine Irish rock oyster shells. Each shell is naturally formed, irregular in shape, and completely unique, making every candle one of a kind.

Our shells are responsibly sourced from local partners, mainly Sea Shanty in Blackrock. Rather than discarding the shells after service, they are cleaned, sanitised, and carefully prepared to be repurposed into functional, long lasting candle vessels.

This approach allows us to give natural materials a second life while preserving their raw character. 

Our Process

Each oyster shell is individually:

  • Selected for structure and integrity
  • Thoroughly cleaned and sanitised
  • Inspected for stability and safety
  • Hand-poured with premium wax
  • Finished with a centred cotton wick

The shells are not reshaped or refined. Their jagged edges, chipped rims and irregular forms are retained intentionally. These variations are not defects, they are inherent to the material.

Candles are poured in small batches to maintain quality and consistency.

Materials & Quality

We use high-quality natural soy wax designed for a clean, even burn. Wicks are chosen specifically to suit the natural curvature and depth of each shell to minimise tunnelling and ensure stability.

All candles are safety-tested in line with EU standards. Where fragrances are used, they are selected carefully and comply with applicable regulations.

Design Philosophy

Tide & Wick focuses on simplicity and natural texture.

The aesthetic is minimal, coastal and neutral, designed to integrate seamlessly into modern interiors. Whether used as a dining table accent, a bathroom detail, or a gift, each piece is intended to feel understated yet considered.

We do not mass produce.
We do not standardise the shape.
We work with what nature provides.

After the Burn

Once finished, the shell can be rinsed with warm water and reused as:

  • A trinket dish
  • A salt bowl
  • A jewellery holder
  • A decorative coastal accent

This extends the life of the material beyond the candle itself.

A Small Irish Business

Tide & Wick is independently run and based in Ireland. Every candle is poured, finished and packed by hand.

By sourcing locally and producing in small quantities, we aim to keep the process thoughtful, transparent and sustainable.
